Great Egrets are members of the heron family. They build tree nests in colonies close to water. These birds are distinguished by their all-white plummage, and during breeding by their delicate ornamental feathers on the back and green coloration on the face. A thriving rookery can be found at Kiwanis Lake in York, Pennsylvania.
