Snowy Owl
The Snowy Owl is also known as Polar Owl, White Owl, or Arctic Owl. They are native to the arctic regions of North America, where they breed in the tundra. In the winter they migrate south to northern US states, wherever they can find a plentiful food source. Snowy Owl sightings are fairly rare for Lancaster County. It is thought that our fertile farmlands resemble their native tundra. The Snowy Owl is listed as "vulnerable" on the IUCN conservation list. Recent data suggests there are probably fewer than 100,00 individuals globally. The number of successful breeding pairs is 28,000 or even considerably less. This individual has been identified as a juvenile male.
