Just beautiful, Doug...the photos, the music, everything...brings a tear to my eye. If I only go on one more Aggressor trip for the rest of my life, it's GOT to be this trip!! Again, thank you for sharing your amazing experience!!
The Hoki Maru was transporting aviation fuel to the supply base at Truk. An aerial bomb hit the ship and it exploded in a fireball. The fire raged fiercely below deck, killing most of the Japanese crew.
The Nippo Maru is one of the deeper wrecks in Truk Lagoon. She was most likely sunk by a 500 lb. aerial bomb on the first day of the attack. The helm and compass on the bridge are signature features, as well as a large tank secured to the midship deck.
The Heian Maru was a Japanese passenger and cargo liner before the war. She was converted to a submarine tender, and carried a large number of torpedos intended for Japanese submarines.
