Just beautiful, Doug...the photos, the music, everything...brings a tear to my eye. If I only go on one more Aggressor trip for the rest of my life, it's GOT to be this trip!! Again, thank you for sharing your amazing experience!!
The Fujikawa Maru is one of the most spectacularly beautiful shipwrecks in Truk Lagoon. Truk (Chuuk) is in the Federated States of Micronesia in the western Pacific. It was the scene of a World War II battle between the Allies and Japan. Operation Hailstone sent some 40 Japanese merchant ships (maru) to watery graves in the shallow lagoon.
The Shinkoku Maru is a Japanese merchant ship sunk in Truk Lagoon during World War II. Operation Hailstone was a surprise naval operation against the Japanese Fourth Fleet at anchor in the lagoon.
The Sankisan Maru is one of the most heavily damaged ships sunk in Truk Lagoon. An aerial bomb hit an ammunition cache in the stern of the ship and blew it completely apart. The bow and midship are relatively intact. The Sankisan was a supply ship carrying ammunition and medical supplies to the Japanese Fourth Fleet base in Truk.
